John Mury

John Mury currently serves as the head pastor of Beacon Community Church. As a part of his duties as head pastor, he also serves on the Elder Board and oversees the teaching ministry of Beacon.

John Mury graduated from Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL) with an undergrad in philosophy and a Masters in church history and systematic theology. John was also police officer in the Chicago area in the early 90s before he began full-time ministry work at Willow Creek Community Church (South Barrington, IL) as a leader and teacher in the single adult ministry.

John is also a computer geek on the side and as he confirms, “a geek” in general. His interests are wide ranging, and he deeply enjoys engaging our modern culture. Whether it’s a discussion of the latest movie, the impact of new science on society, or a comic book you might have collected as a child, John enjoys talking about them all and more.

His wife, Aimee, is a small group leader and together they also parent their three young children, Xander (7), Jasmine (5), and Eliza (3). John and Aimee are also passionate about Beacon being a place where people experience genuine community and friendship.
