It doesn’t look like a blizzard but due to the continued winter storm warning, we are canceling service this morning. It’s not quite the monster Sunday storms we had last year but even if we decided to muscle through this weather, the church might not be adequately plowed. I’d also like to avoid one of those situations where the only people who show up are the people responsible for putting on the service itself. :-)
Enjoy the morning home with your loved ones. I’d encourage you to light your own Advent candle this morning. We’ve lit candles for hope, peace and joy so far. Today’s candle is for love. Take time this morning to share with one another how Christ has brought love into your lives this year. In his essay “Sincerity,” Thomas Merton says that before we live out the first and greatest commandment (to love God), there is a prior commandment: to believe that you are loved (1 John 4:19). Make today an opportunity to stake stock of all the ways in which God has shown his love to you!
I hope to see you all at our Christmas Eve service at 5pm. I actually had someone ask me the date of our Christmas Eve service but I’ll leave that as a puzzle for you all to solve. :-)
