What if you don’t have an iPod? What if you want to listen to a podcast somewhere other than in front of your computer? Can you listen to podcasts on CD? The answer is “Yes!” There are several ways to listen to podcasts off of a CD: one that is very simple, and some others that may be a little more complicated.

Using iTunes to “burn” a podcast to CD

If you have iTunes, it’s a very simple process to put a podcast on a CD. If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to the podcast in iTunes. Once you have the podcast loaded into iTunes and have downloaded the podcast you are interested in, the next steps are fairly simple:

  1. Open iTunes. Click on the podcast section under “LIBRARY”. You should see the Beacon Community Podcast:Beacon Podcast in iTunes LibraryIf you don’t see the latest podcast showing up, right click on Beacon Community Church and choose “Update Podcast”. If the podcast you want to listen is grayed out, choose the “GET” button next to the podcast to retrieve it.
  2. Click on the podcast you want to put on a CD. A simple left click should highlight the podcast.
  3. Select “File -> New Playlist from Selection” from the iTunes application menu. This will create a new playlist with just the selected podcast in it. iTunes will automatically name it something like “John Mury - Beacon Community Church”. You can choose to name it whatever you want or keep the default.
  4. With the new playlist selected, choose “File -> Burn Playlist to Disc”. iTunes will ask you to insert a new blank CD. Once you have inserted the new CD, it will start burning the podcast to the CD.

When the CD is all finished, you should be ready to listen to the CD in a CD player. enjoy!

Using Something Other Than iTunes

If you don’t have iTunes or you don’t want to use iTunes, you need to first make sure you first download the podcast audio file. Remember where you save the file.

Now you need to open up the software package to burn the audio to a CD. You will need to either download or purchase software for burning CDs. Consider downloading iTunes, as it is free and automates a lot of work for you when dealing with podcasts. Otherwise, use the software of your choice.

Please see the documentation for your CD burning software and follow the instructions. You will use the podcast audio file you downloaded beforehand.
